Our highly motivated team works to provide prisoners with a brighter future.
Celesta has a background in Criminology and International Law. She founded Product of Prison after having gained work experience in prisons in Burundi and Uganda and after seeing the difficulties prisoners face in breaking the cycle of poverty and crime. By focusing on rehabilitation, she wishes to help prisoners become self-reliant and to offer them a chance at a new life after prison. Celesta is responsible for managing POP’s activities outside of Uganda.
Alix leads our work in Uganda, with oversight of all projects, and manages the staff and volunteers, and the relationship with the Uganda Prisons Service (UPS). She is the main liaison with our funders, and reports quarterly to UPS.
Before attending the University of Lincoln in the UK, Brian spent five months in Uganda volunteering for a small charity headquartered in his hometown of Coleraine, Northern Ireland. Captivated by the beauty of the country and the people (and by the sunshine!), he was determined to return – which he did, briefly, a few years later.
Following several years working for charities in both England and Scotland, Brian decided the time was right to return to Uganda on a more permanent basis and pursued a tantalising opportunity with POP.
Brian is responsible for the organisation’s fundraising and marketing activities, developing and promoting POP’s product range, ensuring that POP runs its projects in a financially sustainable and effective manner, and keeping donors and supporters up to date on our work.
Grace is a former participant of our Reintegration and Tailoring Centre in Gulu. After finishing a year of work experience and reintegration support, she became our Gulu Project Coordinator. In 2014, Hilda was a participant in our Hairdressing Skills Project in Lira Women’s Prison. After her release in 2015, she became our Lira Project Coordinator. She is based in Lira and manages the Hair Salon, trains prisoners in hairdressing and manicure and pedicure.
