As my first time visiting our partners in East Africa, everyday was a huge learning experience as I was immersed in their work and in a new environment.  It was particularly exciting to meet our new partners, who had received funding from the Forward Foundation just over a month earlier.  One thing that struck me very early on in the trip was how quickly these leaders were moving and how much they had got done in such a short space of time.  This was rather at odds with the amount of time it took to get through customs in Entebbe Airport or fight through the traffic in Nairobi, or the endless papers and certificates our partners needed to contend with to do their work.  But whilst bureaucracy and inefficiency amongst some of the countries’ larger institutions threaten to grind them almost to a halt, here were a few individuals really making things happen (…).
